One day in Gibraltar

This time I'll tell you about the day I spent in Gibraltar. It was not my first time in here!

I was here in 2015 in this small territory under the control of the English crown!

I got out of Altura (Algarve) at 7.00 am. We crossed the Guadiana bridge and headed towards Seville. Near the highway, the fields were almost all cultivated, of a dazzling green with enormous beauty. Arriving at Seville we continue towards Algeciras, Cadiz, since there are no signs that indicate the way to Gibraltar due to the political conflict between Spain and England by the dispute of this small territory. Around 10:30 we were right in front of the cliff, but ... we had the misfortune that a plane was arrived at the same time, an easyjet plane. This means that we have should stay at the cue at the sun, waiting to enter in Gibraltar (we have to cross the airport! ) After that we finally arrived at that small English territory and followed its narrow streets, where our car was not at all suitable. After a few minutes between streets and alleys towards the marina, we meet a bathing area in the rock! A little further on, we went to a spectacular waterfall ... amazing!! From here we could already see Morocco, Moorish lands!

After half a dozen photos and some snacks, we headed towards Europa Point. After a series of tunnels there we arrived. For me this is one of the most magical places in Gibraltar. When we arrive there we feel the hot and humid, here we are not so far from Morocco and we feel a mixture of emotions because we are so close to another continent, which on certain days is allowed to see (today was the case). In addition, we are right in front of the Strait of Gibraltar, a very important point for centuries, where Muslims invaded the Iberian Peninsula in 711 led by Tariq, conquering the whole peninsula to the Christians except Asturias. In addition to this we still have an amazing atmosphere, with the presence of the Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim mosque (offer from King Fahd of Saudi Arabia), a lighthouse, the rock of Gibraltar itself and the bay of Algeciras.

This time we chose not to climb to the top of the rock since we did it in 2015 and the view is similar to Europa Point (of course it is not totally the same and it is more scenic but we thought it was not worth it). That said, we headed to the famous Main Street, an avenue full of shops. Here we can find shops of all kinds, from clothing stores, to electronics stores, to souvenir shops ... a world! It is possible to observe along this street details that remind us that we are in English territory, more precisely in London with the facades of some houses, post offices, signs or even the famous red phone booths!!

After some shopping, we took another turn to the rock, took the last photos and around 5:30 p.m, and then we left "the rock" and headed towards Portugal. Along the way I saw some great mountains near Gibraltar, in Spain, a large wind farm and even funny names of some lands that I did not know... LOL (take a look at the photos and discover them!)

Gibraltar, although it is only a rock and a bit of land around it, overflows with emotion and history. It is one of the most magnificent places I have ever visited. Besides the landscape is still a place where you can do some purchases with fair prices of certain products. On a next trip I hope to cross the strait by boat and see another country that has always been related to Portugal.

Note for travelers: The time here is the same as in Spain. The currency is the Gibraltar Pound but it is always worth haggling, especially in electronic material. Euros are also acepted. The fuel rates in Gibraltar are in pounds ... not in euros!
